THE JEPYs

On the evening of February 25th, 2021, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, the stars of the CBF Justice Entrepreneurs Project, friends, family, and community partners will gather virtually to celebrate innovative practices, expanded access to legal services, and lawyering with panache at THE FIFTH ANNUAL JEPY AWARDS. It’s free to attend the event but a suggested donation of $20 or the purchase of a book from our wish list below will help us fund and support the program and will qualify you as a member of the JEP Academy (i.e., you get to vote on the winners!!).

Book Wishlist

We would love your help in updating our library! We are seeking books that will help our JEPers become better business owners, leaders and/or lawyers. We encourage everyone to support local and black owned bookstores. Here is our wish list (in no particular order): Dare to Lead by Brene Brown; The E-Myth Attorney Revisited by Michael E. Gerber; Automic Habits by James Clear; You are a Badass by Jen Cincero; Girl Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis; Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi; Indistractable by Nir Eyal; Good to Great by Jim Collins; Conscious Capitalism by John Mackey & Rajendra Sisodia; Show the Story by William S. Bailey & Robert W. Bailey; Daring Greatly by Brene Brown; and Invent and Wander by Walter Isaacson (Introduction) & Jeff Bezos (Contributor). Please ship all books to the JEP office at 73 W. Monroe St., Suite 100, Chicago, IL 60603.

50/50 Raffle Tickets

Another way to support the JEP (and yourself if you win!) is to purchase raffle tickets for our 50/50 raffle. Tickets are one for $10 or three for $25. The winner will receive 50% of the pot and will be drawn and notified after the event so you do not need to be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased during the event registration process and anytime before the conclusion of the JEPYs.

Awards

Nominations for seven hotly contested and highly acclaimed JEPYs, including two new awards, have come from far and wide; nominees are listed below. Unlike other awards doled out this time of year, JEPY recipients bask in the glow of their honor for 3 years before becoming eligible for repeat nomination in a category. Past JEPY winners are listed below. Belated congratulations to past recipients are welcomed. Members of the JEP Academy will receive a notification via email when nominees have been named and voting is open. Not yet a member of the JEP Academy? Change that now by making a donation or purchasing a book from our wishlist.

Innovation in Legal Service Delivery

Innovation is at the heart of JEP network practices and necessary to meet the needs of the under served. This award is for the JEP network firm pushing the envelope — whether through predictable pricing, unbundled offerings, tech efficiencies, or community accessibility– to better serve the under served middle market for legal services.

2021 Nominees:

Best Pandemic Pivot

“The Rona” threw us quite a curveball this past year. The world changed overnight and JEP attorneys and others had to respond quickly. Sometimes the response required JEPers to pivot by including a new practice area, reworking pricing structures, or reworking their business model. Luckily, JEPers were up to the challenge. This award recognizes the JEPer who made the biggest pandemic-inspired pivot in 2020.
